One of the worlds leading producers of composite and adhesive film has selected SCM as its Turnkey supplier for a bespoke automated materials handling solution at one its state of the art UK facilities.
Following the installation of a new adhesive coating line the customer requires a material handling solution for handling, wrapping, transporting adhesive material rolls of film from its coater located in its main process area to its packaging room for box packaging and palletizing.
SCM will utilise KUKA’s KR470 PA Robot equipped with a C-Hook Gripping attachment that will be able to accommodate both 25kg and 250kg rolls of adhesive material from the coater. The robot will insert the C-Hook probe into the core and remove the roll from the coating machine. Once clear of the machine the Robot will present the roll to the operator ready for the “roll dressing” to take place. The utilisation of KUKA’s SafeRobot and SafeOperation software will ensure that the operator can safely and efficiently interact with the robot and perform all manual tasks including bagging the roll and taking a sample.
All bagged and “dressed” rolls will be placed on a bespoke stillage by the robot and taken to the customer’s dedicated packaging and palletising area.
Once at the Palletising area, the operator will remove rolls with SCM’s vacuum manipulator, placing them into pre-formed boxes. These boxes will then index through an automatic case sealer ready to be palletised. Once sealed the boxes enter SCM’s XYZ Palletising System. The system’s compact and space saving nature made it an ideal solution for this simple automatic palletising task.
Detailed design has begun and we look forward to reporting on the installation later this year.
